Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer provides customer service to site/office personnel and will participate in proper flow of paperwork and information. You will procure and place orders for goods and materials for the Company in a timely and cost-effective manner. Make recommendations and suggest options to Purchasing Manager regarding expected or unexpected material shortages. Make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the organization.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations the Operations Manager's role is to plan, organize, provide direct leadership and support to senior project staff. The position is accountable for the success of multiple construction projects within the Western Division Operations. The role requires excellent leadership skills and business management sense with a thorough understanding of construction management functions within the mining, oil/gas, bio-energy and municipal sectors. The Operations Manager will be responsible for resource management, financial performance and client relations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assist in the establishment and ensure compliance of operational unit’s short-term and long-term goals with overall corporate objectives. Plan, staff, and supervise all assigned work unit activities through subordinate managers to ensure a cohesive operational unit.
• Responsible for developing strong field force including all hourly and salaried operational staff in conjunction with the general superintendent as well as project managers and superintendents.
• Provide advice, guidance, and direction to subordinate managers toward their professional development. Monitoring availability and flow of personnel as well as hiring, motivating and assigning teams to projects. Provide support to any number of projects from an operational, financial and resource standpoint.
• Coordinate and confer with professional staff to resolve operating problems and difficulties, and authorize department operational procedures within corporate framework. Serves as management team member.
• In conjunction with the project managers and superintendents, responsible for maintaining good working relationships and promoting good public relations with the Owners, Architects and the community.
• Accountable for the combined overall project budgets and results including; assisting Project Managers with the financial and scheduling management of their site(s).

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Mechanical Operations Manager's role is to be involved in the planning, management and profitability of mechanical operations for multiple projects within NAC’s Western Division.  The position is accountable for staffing, dispute resolution, provision of technical expertise and overall support for the mechanical operations team. The role requires excellent planning and communication skills, strong team leadership, a positive attitude and a thorough understanding of mechanical operations management of both industrial and municipal projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Plan, staff, and supervise all assigned work unit activities through subordinate managers to ensure a cohesive operational unit.  Monitor availability and flow of personnel as well as hiring, motivating and assigning teams to projects.   Responsible for the leadership, motivation and development of a strong field mechanical workforce including apprentices, mechanical personnel, foremen, and supervisory staff. 
2. Provide support to the creation and monitoring of project schedules to maintain estimated efficiencies.  Communicate concerns and recommendations to Project Management to assist in achieving dates, holding durations, and where applicable support claims
3. Review and monitor Mechanical department’s role at each project; lead, guide, and/or direct individuals as required being aware of other project team member’s needs and concerns.  Learn and adapt to project demands and issues; recommend means of resolution or mitigation
4. Work towards continuous improvement in estimates. Provide feedback and interface with estimating department as required to improve systems, methods, and understanding.  Also, provide support to business development.
5. Monitor projects and provide audits/reports as required to facilitate improvements in construction methods, implementation of systems, cost and labour forecasting, development of individuals, and promotion of a team oriented work environment.  To the same ends, take part in value engineering, in purchasing, and in dealings with suppliers and subcontractors to maximize profitability.

Qualifications:

• 10 - 15 years progressive work experience in various construction/industrial environments such as mining, oil/gas, bio-energy and municipal infrastructure.
• Work respectfully and cooperatively with others; establishing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external partners; being inclusive, encouraging participation of all members.
• Proficient computer software skills.

Experience in a heavy industrial and/or municipal environment is required. Journeyman status preferred but not essential. Proficiency in SMAW on Carbon Steel pipe, 2" - 30" diameter and Stainless Steel pipe welding using TIG process on 2" - 10" diameter is essential. Blueprint reading and fitting skills a definite asset. Current WHMIS certification is mandatory.

Excellent communications skills are essential.

You will have a minimum of 3 years experience in a municipal and/or industrial construction environment and be proficient in reading blueprints and drawings. You will be familiar with various sizes and types of pipework, such as carbon, stainless, plastic and copper. A current WHMIS certificate is mandatory.
